The House's first author

Anne Laurette

Anne Laurette writes intimate, atmospheric fiction about women, longing, and the inner worlds they rarely share.

Her first novel, Too Bright, was published in December 2025. The author-narrated audiobook is coming soon, followed by Too Quiet in December 2026.

She lives in New England, writes after dark, and has a weakness for candlelight, strange weather, chocolate cake, and women who have finally had enough.

Work in Progress

The author-narrated audiobook of Too Bright is now in the final stages of production.

Anne Laurette is reading the novel in her own voice, preserving its quiet tension, intimate rhythm, and the particular interior world of Lo.

Recorded closely and without theatrical distance, the audiobook is meant to feel like the story has pulled up a chair beside you after the house has gone quiet.

The final edit is underway. Coming soon from The Velvet Chair - Fall 2026.

A New Voice

The Velvet Chair is preparing to welcome its next author.

Her work is bright, unruly, funny in unexpected places, and deeply interested in the ways girls find one another and build a world of their own. She writes about friendship, belonging, grief, bad ideas, private rituals, and the strange objects people keep because throwing them away would feel like betrayal.

Her first novel is currently in development, with publication planned for early summer 2027.

More soon.
