The Velvet Chair
The Velvet Chair is an independent literary house devoted to quiet, interior fiction—books that linger rather than announce themselves.
We publish work rooted in emotional realism, intimacy, and attunement. Stories that unfold inwardly. Books meant to be read slowly, returned to, and lived with.
Our focus is women's fiction and literary fiction that privileges interior life over plot movement. These are novels concerned with memory, desire, restraint, rupture, and self-trust. They are not written for trends or algorithms, but for readers who recognize themselves in the margins.
The Velvet Chair was founded to create space for this kind of work—fiction that does not need to raise its voice to be felt.
Velvet Fiction™
The Velvet Chair is also home to Velvet Fiction, a term we use to describe emotionally rich, character-driven narratives that are intimate without being slight, sensual without being performative, and restrained without being distant.
Velvet Fiction centers interiority. It trusts the reader. It allows silence, longing, and ambiguity to do their work.

Looking Ahead
The Velvet Chair is building a small, intentional catalog. We believe in work that endures, and in publishing that honors both the writer and the reader.
